CORPORATE BACKGROUND:

UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results.

UNDP is working to strengthen new frameworks for development, disaster risk reduction and climate change. We support countries’ efforts to achieve the new Sustainable Development Goals, which will guide global development priorities through 2030. The key 2030 Agenda principle of leaving no one behind and stamping out inequality is at the core of everything we do.

UNDP focuses on helping countries build and share solutions in three main areas:

  • Sustainable development
  • Democratic governance and peacebuilding
  • Climate and disaster resilience

In all our activities, we encourage the protection of human rights and the empowerment of women, minorities and the poorest and most vulnerable.

INTERNSHIP OFFICE BACKGROUND:

Notwithstanding the massive socioeconomic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2022 presents UNDP and its partners a great opportunity to build back a better, greener and inclusive economy. UNDP aims to address the socioeconomic dimensions of recovery through policy and technical support as well as promoting greater participation by communities and marginalized groups, while promoting innovation and best practices for green growth.  UNDP is focussing on supporting the Government to return to pre-COVID-19 levels of growth and regain momentum in consolidating economic transformation. The Inclusive Green Economy Unit (IGEU) will play a pivotal role in this process through developing and implementing programmes in economic development with a focus on strengthening the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, the National Institute for Statistical Research and the Ministry of Trade and Industry in the recovery process and in their efforts to achieve the National Strategy for Transformation (NST1). IGEU also provides advisory services to the Resident Representative, the Deputy Resident Representative and senior management on all programmatic and strategic

matters affecting the Country Office, and also contribute to global and regional initiatives as directed by the Strategy Analysis and Research Unit of the Regional Bureau for Africa (RBA).

The objective of the Research Internship is to provide the intern with the opportunity to conduct research on topics such as Rwanda’s progress towards the SDGs, digital transformation, use of digital technologies for poverty reduction, private sector development and other issues related to sustainable development. In particular, the intern will contribute to data collection, analysis, report writing, proofreading and other tasks.

More information about UNDP’s private sector related work can be found online at www.iicpsd.org  and www.sdgailab.org. The Programme operates under the rules and regulations of the UNDP Internship Policy.
