THE BANK
Established in 1964, the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) is the premier pan-African development institution, promoting economic growth and social progress across the continent. There are 81 member states, including 54 in Africa (Regional Member Countries). The Bank’s development agenda delivers financial and technical support for transformative projects that will significantly reduce poverty through inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Africa. In order to sharply focus the objectives of the Ten Year Strategy (2023 – 2032) and ensure greater developmental impact, five major areas (High 5s), all of which will accelerate our delivery for Africa, have been identified for scaling up, namely; energy, agribusiness, industrialisation, regional integration and improving the quality of life for the people of Africa.
THE COMPLEX
The Bank has set up a Regional Development, Integration and Business Delivery Complex, whose primary objective is to build regional capacity and bring responsibility for client activities closer to the regions. Five Regional Development, Integration and Business Delivery Hubs have been created, each run by a Director General: Southern Africa, North Africa, West Africa, East Africa, and Central Africa.
THE HIRING DEPARTMENT/DIVISION
The various Country Offices are under one of the five (5) Regional Development, Integration and Service Delivery Hubs. Each Hub oversees a combination of country and liaison offices and non-presence countries.
Under the Directorate General of Central Africa Region, the African Development Bank’s Country Office in Gabon was established to strengthen policy dialogue between the Bank, Governments, and other stakeholders, improve project portfolio performance and aid coordination with other development partners.
THE POSITION
The driver (STS) will provide safe and reliable driving services for the Gabon Country Office (COGA) and perform office courier duties.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Under the direct supervision of the Country Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Support the smooth running of operations with special focus on Office staff, visiting missions and official delegations of the Office on official duty in Gabon as and when required;
- Transport the Director General and/or other staff or provide other driving services, as assigned in the conduct of the Bank’s operations;
- Ensure routine maintenance of Office vehicles;
- Perform office courier duties;
- Project a good image of the Bank through professional appearance and conduct at all times;
- Ensure that vehicles are kept clean; keep records of official travel, daily mileage, fuel consumption, oil changes, lubricant, etc.;
- Ensure that the formalities provided for in the regulations are complied with in the event of an accident;
- Support the Bank’s protocol services;
- Perform any other official duties as requested.
SELECTION CRITERIA (skills, knowledge and experience)
- Hold a minimum of a high school diploma;
- Possess a valid driver’s licence with a clean record;
- Possess any additional documentation or certification to carry out the job;
- Have the right to work in Gabon;
- Have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience as a driver in an international/multinational institution or a public or private sector organisation;
- Have experience and skills in minor vehicle repairs and regular vehicle maintenance.
- Have a working knowledge of the rules and regulations to be observed for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of vehicles;
- Demonstrate initiative, be discreet, honest and have good character;
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English or French, preferably with a good working knowledge of the other language.
- Proof of nationality or proof of permanent resident status with a work permit in the proposed country of employment;
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access). Familiarity with SAP is an asset.
