AWS Wavelength will be available in Morocco and Senegal later this year, according to plans announced by Orange Middle East & Africa (OMEA) and Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS).
This will allow businesses, government agencies, and startups to safely process and store data locally, use AWS services for digital transformation, and develop low-latency applications.
These represent the first AWS Wavelength Zones that are directly reachable via wireline (internet) and wireless connections, enabling any client to set up and operate local applications on AWS computation and storage situated in Orange data centers.
With AWS Wavelength, developers can support use cases in both low-latency application-dependent businesses like gaming and high-trust, regulated industries like telecom, finance, public sector, and healthcare that demand local data.
Customers can easily reconnect to the remainder of their applications and the entire suite of cloud services operating in an AWS Region by utilizing AWS Wavelength Zones, which extend AWS services locally while utilizing AWS’s security, scalability, and dependability.
With 298 million customers globally and a presence in 26 countries, including 18 in Africa and the Middle East, Orange is one of the top telecom providers in the world. Orange, an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner, has a proven track record of assisting businesses with their cloud migrations.
To promote cloud adoption in Africa, Orange will make use of both the newly available local infrastructure capabilities and AWS Regions. Orange will also operate some of its IT workloads domestically as an anchor client for the AWS Wavelength Zones, contributing to the company’s faster digital transformation.
