Namibia welcomes ministerial delegations, foreign trade missions and the global green energy value chain ahead of inaugural Global African Hydrogen Summit

The Global African Hydrogen Summit, taking place this week from Tuesday, September 3, through to Thursday, September 5, 2024, in Windhoek, Namibia, will serve as a critical platform that will focus on the role Africa expects to play in the global hydrogen sector.

The dynamic three-day Summit will facilitate collaboration and foster partnerships between African nations and international stakeholders, as well as advance dialogue across policy, investment and the emerging hydrogen value chain.

Hosted under the patronage of the Government of Namibia, the Guest of Honour, Her Excellency Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Vice President of the Republic of Namibia, will lead the official Summit opening ceremony.

Endorsed by the Ministry of Minerals and Energy of Namibia, the Summit’s sectoral patron, Hon. Minister Tom Alweendo, will be joined by a distinguished lineup of peers and visionary government officials at the forefront of Africa’s green industrial revolution.

Ministerial delegations and trade missions from Algeria, Angola, Belgium, Burundi, Congo, Egypt, EU, Germany, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda are arriving in Windhoek ahead of the Summit.

Notable government dignitaries confirmed to participate include: 

  • Hon. Doto Mashaka Biteko (MP), Deputy Prime Minister, United Republic of Tanzania
  • Hon. Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy, European Union

The Global African Hydrogen Summit will feature a world-class Strategic Conference with over 126 expert industry speakers from Namibia, Africa, and around the globe.

Simultaneously, the International Exhibition will host 5 Country Pavilions, including Belgium, EU, Germany, Netherlands and Namibia, showcasing industry leaders, including BESIX, Fluxys, HDF Energy, Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, Nel Hydrogen, Siemens, ThyssenKrupp and Vopak. The International Exhibition will also spotlight an Innovation Zone, which will feature a duel-streamed Technical Seminar and a dedicated Youth Programme agenda.

Additionally, the Summit will host the privately conducted Project Investment Roundtables, where more than 30 bankable green energy projects from across Africa will be presented to investors, aiming to fast-track their progress toward financial closure.
