Meta is developing the world's fastest artificial intelligence supercomputer.

Mark Zuckerberg’s social media company has unveiled ambitions to build the world’s fastest artificial intelligence supercomputer as part of an effort to create a virtual metaverse.

In a blog post, Mark Zuckerberg stated that the metaverse, a concept that combines the physical and digital worlds via virtual and augmented reality, will require “enormous” computer capacity.

Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, gathers a lot of data from its 2.8 billion daily users.

The AI supercomputer, named AI Research SuperCluster (RSC) by Meta, is already the fifth fastest in the world, according to the company.

We need a lot of computing [sic] capacity for the metaverse experiences we’re building, and RSC will enable new AI models that can learn from billions of samples and understand hundreds of languages, among other things, according to a blog post by Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. According to the experts, when the RSC is finished this summer, it will be the fastest computer of its kind.

Using the RSC, which is made up of thousands of processors and hosted in an unknown place, Meta researchers stated they could identify hazardous content on their platforms.

There is still a long way to go before the metaverse, which Meta admits isn’t even close to being developed fully, is a big part of the company’s plans for the computer.
