(Ecofin Agency) – Israeli satellite operator Spacecom announced on November 11 it is now the new Internet Service Provider (ISP) of La Poste Senegal. The multi-year contract signed between the two parties will see La Poste join the network of AMOS-17 satellite.
La Poste Senegal will receive a robust, secure, and reliable network communication via a Ku-band beam that will then link its VSAT sites to its hub in Dakar. With this high-quality connectivity that will serve its 200 remote post offices, La Poste hopes to contribute to bridging the digital divide by providing access to Internet services and additional applications to its rural customers throughout the country.
Abdoulaye Bibi Balde, the president and CEO of La Poste, explains that the public company “is always looking to improve the services it provides to its customers and has thought of a plan to reduce the digital divide across Senegal. To do so, we needed to increase our capacity and find a satellite and solutions provider to undertake it. Spacecom proved to be the ideal company to partner with.”
For Albert Khayat, Spacecom’s Vice President for West Africa, “this long-term contract marks an important milestone for Spacecom as we prepare to further penetrate the Francophone region of Africa.“
