IBM recently made announcements about their support for the Digital4Agriculture Initiative (D4Ag) on the 7th of December 2020.

IBM intend to promote participation in the agricultural sector and improve the standard of living of local farmers by enabling more efficient farming processes.

The IBM Weather Company, Digital4Agriculture (D4Ag) provides several African companies with accurate weather forecast using their vast technical expertise and efficient business processes.

Access to reliable weather readings has been a major setback for small-scale agriculture ventures attributed to their lack of required infrastructure and access to internet connectivity or affordable mobile communication device.

IBM Public Sector account executive Florian Scheil said “Small farmers are the backbone of Africa’s food supply and their success and quality of life depends upon having reliable weather forecast data and insights.

We are proud to provide African farmers with weather information and services accessible to help them better manage and improve their crop production.”

The project over the last three years has designed a three-stage, interactive e-learning training platform powered by tech experts from the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and IBM Services; based on high-resolution weather data provided by The Weather Company.
