(Ecofin Agency) – According to the WHO, the humanitarian crisis in Chad has reached alarming levels due to the armed conflicts in neighboring Sudan, which have increased the number of refugees. With over 570,000 refugees already present, the recent influx is putting unbearable pressure on essential resources.
In Chad, the humanitarian crisis has reached “alarming” levels. In its latest report on health crises in Africa, the WHO highlights the armed conflict in neighboring Sudan as a major factor. Frequent clashes along the Sudanese border have led to a surge in refugees and internally displaced people, exacerbating the already vulnerable socio-economic and political situation.
Chad was already hosting over 570,000 refugees, with 70% of them originating from Sudan. The recent influx, resulting from the conflicts, has strained essential resources such as food, water, and shelter.
In total, experts estimate that over 268,000 people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, necessitating the deployment of funds for emergency healthcare and refugee support.
