Applications are now open for the Llama Impact Accelerator 2025, a regional program targeting African startups developing local solutions using artificial intelligence. The initiative, led by Llama, Meta’s AI model, runs through June 27 and is being deployed in Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and Senegal.
The accelerator supports early-stage companies addressing local challenges in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, education, public services, and security. Selected startups will receive technical assistance, cloud computing access, and guidance to adapt their innovations to national priorities and on-the-ground needs.
With over 10 million young people entering a job market offering only 3 million formal positions annually, AI is seen as a strategic lever for job creation and social impact. The African Development Bank estimated youth unemployment at 39% in 2024.
The program follows in the footsteps of initiatives like the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa, launched in 2018. That effort has supported over 140 startups in 17 countries and generated more than 3,000 jobs.
The long-term success of the Llama Impact Accelerator will depend not only on the quality of the selected projects but also on sustained post-program support. Its impact could set the stage for further investment in AI solutions tailored to African contexts.
