Enakl, a Moroccan urban mobility startup, has raised US$1.4 million in pre-seed funding to enable it to create intelligent, safer, and sustainable collective transportation solutions for daily commutes at home and abroad.

Catalyst Fund led the pre-seed funding round, which also included Renew Capital, Digital Africa, Station F, and 15 business angels, to accelerate the company’s expansion in Morocco and other regions.

Enakl, which was founded in September 2023 by Samir Bennani and Charles Pommarede and later joined by Ahmed Omrane as associate CTO, seeks to improve millions of workers’ daily commutes by providing a dependable and easily accessible shared transit platform that lowers carbon emissions and traffic.

Bennani and Pommarede stated, “This funding allows us to deepen our impact in Casablanca, expand our reach, and accelerate the development of our technology, leveraging AI to optimize routes, enhance commuter experiences, and drive sustainable urban mobility solutions.”

According to Maxime Bayen, managing partner at Catalyst Fund, his business chose to invest in Enakl because it was revolutionizing urban transport in Africa by providing a green, scalable solution.

“By reducing emissions and congestion through tech-driven, shared transport, Enakl addresses urbanization’s challenges while enhancing accessibility. In a climate-conscious world, Enakl’s model leads the way in sustainable, inclusive mobility for African cities,” according to Bayen.

Enakl has successfully launched its pilot program, is currently handling over 15,000 bookings in Casablanca at a monthly growth rate of 20%, and plans to move to other African cities.
