Bergland Bee Farming – pure South African honey

0

Bergland Bee Farming (PTY) Ltd was founded in 2005 by Jana Du Plessis and is now a family business providing unprocessed and processed South African honey and bee products and services to various countries.

Jana Du Plessis has been project manager since 2003 for the Department of Agriculture, Kumela Anglo mine and for Hermes Capital (Russia Company in South Africa) for Import and Export markets. Jana has been actively involved with local government to provide training to local communities – to help them set up bee-friendly, sustainable beekeeping farms, sustainable vineyard farms and sustainable livestock farms. She also went a step further by giving these communities access to the market on the various farms.

Jana Du Plessis has won several accolades such as the Northern Cape Female Farmer of the Year in 2007, South African Female Farmer of the Year in 2011 and South African Female Farmer of Export and Import 2018. She has been invited to numerous international conferences and expos.

Our Bee Friendly Bergland products are healthy honeys that contain no pesticide or antibiotic residue and no corn syrup or other additives. Our quality control starts from the pesticide-free apiary we source.

We truly believe that once you taste the difference of Bergland 100% pure unprocessed honey, this is the only honey you’ll have on your table. This is real honey as nature intended.

Our bees

How we started is still how we operate today. Our bees are sourced from natural feral swarms that are ‘thrown off’ from resident established colonies in South Africa.

Honeycomb

This honey in its most natural and pristine form, extracted directly from the beehive with zero additives, pesticides, or heat treatment. Pure honeycomb has a host of health benefits such as cholesterol management and improving liver function. Honey from Organic honeycomb also has antioxidants to eliminate free radicals.

Bottling

We like to bottle the honey as close to the source, but this isn’t always possible. Our main bottling plant is in the Northern Cape, providing work for the local community. We love using glass for bottling but have found that our clients prefer a shipping-safe alternative; thus, we offer different options when bottling, depending on honey range, price, and shipping.

We offer 250g, 375g, 500g and 1kg bottles, but we can customize to your requirements. We sell honey bottles in cases (24 bottles) and raw bulk containers and do large orders on a regular basis.

Our clients

We currently supply raw honey or bottled honey to Woolworths, Spar, Sally Williams, Wedgewood, Kaap Agri, KLK Landbou and numerous farm stalls across Southern Africa. We also ship internationally to countries like Dubai and Hungary.
