Africa Day 2024: Africa50 celebrates diversity

Africa50 honored the rich tapestry of cultures, histories and achievements that make up Africa on Africa Day. The diversity within the Africa50 team, which brings together dynamic and passionate individuals driving the continent’s growth, through investment in transformative infrastructure projects was celebrated. Some of the employees shared what it means to be working in an organization like Africa50 and contributing to the development of the continent.

“I want my children to grow up in an Africa renowned for exceptional institutions and enabling infrastructure in critical sectors such as health, power, and education. I want them to be proud of their origins and celebrate our diverse African heritage. In my role at Africa50, I am proud to oversee infrastructure projects that change the lives of millions of people to build a productive and prosperous region that works for us all.” – Jay Katatumba, Investment Director, Africa50 Infrastructure Acceleration Fund.

“I envision an Africa where communities at the last mile have access to affordable energy, high-quality road infrastructure and mobile and internet connectivity. Africa50’s mission to mobilize international and local capital and investing in sustainable infrastructure will make this dream a reality and transform many of our economies to achieve inclusive growth.” -Mariama Ka, Senior Analyst, Fundraising and Investor Relations

“For me, Africa50 is an enabler of innovation, helping governments launch key projects through PPPs or Asset Recycling without overwhelming their balance sheets. Our investments have long-lasting tangible outcomes, boosting trade between countries through modernized border posts. On Africa Day and everyday, I am proud to be part of a team that supports the African Union’s 2063 Agenda to build a prosperous and integrated Africa through transformative investments in infrastructure.” – Cyndia Kipchumba Nguli, Senior Associate, Fundraising and Investor Relations

“I’m incredibly passionate about Africa. I feel privileged to work on infrastructure projects that have a huge economic impact on our continent. Our work enables Africa to reach its full potential, by improving the quality of life for its people. That is why I come to work every day.” – Omolara Ekundayo, Investment Associate, Project Development

“I am inspired by Africa50’s mission to improve the lives of millions of people on a continent. My work helps in bridging the infrastructure gap and transforming the sector’s approach to innovation to elevate Africa’s investment landscape. We closed the Infrastructure Acceleration Fund (IAF) in December 2023, and we are now scaling Asset Recycling platforms as we deliver game-changing projects. I am part of a movement that is impatient for change -and we are proud to be a driving force for Africa’s growth in every corner of the continent.” – Dana Bennett, Principal Legal Counsel

“Africa50 means Africans coming together with a vision to solve the continents biggest challenges in infrastructure. We embrace innovation and positive change. As an investment team member, it’s hugely rewarding to see how our projects and investments have an immediate impact on local communities. I’m enormously proud of our investment in Azura Edo, especially, which provides power for millions of Nigerians, making up 10% of the country’s electricity supply.” – Gilmore Achenjang, Senior Investment Associate
