The estimated number of smartphone users around the world is pegged at about 2.7 billion.

Meaning that three out of every five persons has a mobile digital camera handy that can capture the most memorable experiences if used the right way.

Phone models come with different camera features, some a bit more complex than others, but can easily be understood either from regular use or following guidelines to achieve the desired photo quality.

Whichever category of smartphone user you belong to, from the highly techy and expensive gadget owner to the basic least-expensive smartphone user, the following tips will ensure that you capture the best quality images with your devices.

• Clean your camera lens to get rid of stains from constant phone use or fingerprints from holding onto the device for long periods. Such stains affect the picture quality and sharpness from both the front and back camera.

• Take the extra effort to set your camera focus. The touch feature on most smartphones allows users to touch the parts of the image to focus on and it will be set in place. Adjust the distance between the camera and model to create the desired focus effect.

• Think about your scene lighting. Identify the source and intensity of the light and use the available light to improve the image quality. For outdoor images, avoid taking pictures when the model is backing sunlight.

• Using a selfie stick, tripod or monopod enables more stable shots especially for still images. Selfie sticks also allow for more participants in group pictures without anyone missing out.

• Avoid in-app cameras as they do not offer as many features as most phone cameras do especially the latest phone models with AI-enabled camera features for better quality images.
