(Ecofin Agency) – The upcoming opening of Ethiopia’s telecom market to competition is a sign of an increase in business demand for new technology needs. To take advantage of this market opportunity, RedFox Web Solution, ScutiX, and Wingu have followed in the footsteps of Raxio Data Plc and signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) to implement their data centers in the Ethio ICT Park, located in Addis Ababa.
Wingu.africa is allocated a 15,000 m2 area for its IT infrastructure. RedFox and Scutix acquired 4,000 m2 and 6,386 m2 respectively. Once operational, the data centers will provide storage, infrastructure solutions for cloud computing, webspace, and domain hosting, virtual private centers, and colocation services. Also, they will offer customized applications to sectors such as telecom, banking, and insurance.
According to Mekonnen Hailu, Public Relations Director at EIC, the construction of these facilities aligns with the country’s ambition to promote the digital economy. Works will begin as soon as the investors complete design and other pre-construction procedures and obtained a building permit as well as the final design approval from the Industrial Parks Development Corporation.
